Academics
The Importance of Academics at Cyrus Peirce Middle School
At Cyrus Peirce Middle School, we believe that academic excellence is the cornerstone of personal growth and future success. Our rigorous curriculum is designed to challenge students intellectually, fostering critical thinking, problem-solving, and a deep understanding of core subjects such as mathematics, science, and language arts. This academic foundation not only prepares students for the demands of high school but also equips them with the skills necessary for lifelong learning and achievement.
Beyond traditional subjects, we emphasize the development of effective study habits, time management, and resilience—skills that are essential for navigating the complexities of both academic and personal challenges. By nurturing these competencies, we aim to cultivate well-rounded individuals who are prepared to contribute thoughtfully and meaningfully to society.
At Cyrus Peirce, we are committed to providing an environment where academic rigor and personal development go hand in hand, ensuring that each student is empowered to reach their full potential.
CPS Schedule
There are four core subjects (subjects): ELA, math, science, and civics (social studies). 8th graders have Environmental science for their 5th core class - a very relevant course for living on Nantucket (sea level rise, erosion, the island aquifer, hurricanes, etc.).
The schedule is 7 blocks, but only 6 periods meet a day, so one block is dropped each day over a 7-day rotation.
Students have 30 minutes for lunch each day and 10-20 minutes each morning for homeroom.
